Many people going into this match would have expected
Celtic to completely take United out, as our defence have tended to leak goals
in of late. But, surprisingly, United took Celtic by surprise and had a couple of
early chances, in which, Charlie Miller had the best one when his 15 yard shot
curled agonisingly wide of Douglas’s right hand post. Celtic though, were
dangerous on the break, and after 13 minutes – took the lead. Steve Guppy
crossed the ball in for John Hartson too powerfully get up in the air and head
home. The heads still never went down, and United battled all the way to the
whistle, we done ourselves proud…up until half time at the moment anyway!
HALF TIME: DUNDEE UNITED 0-1 GLASGOW
CELTIC
We came out in search of an equaliser in the second half,
and United showed real battling qualities to withhold Celtic at the back, and
also get forward and create chances. Thompson went close with a header for
United, as did Lilley, The game heated up, and United were soon showing Celtic
that we were no mugs. On 87 minutes however, Celtic produced the killer blow,
Chris Sutton heading home – from a questionable free kick. Many Arabs Stayed at
the end to clap the team off the pitch – as we had not been disgraced.

HEGARTY ANNOUNCED AS NEW MANAGER OF DUNDEE UNITED FC
HEGARTY
ANNOUNCED AS NEW MANAGER OF DUNDEE UNITED FC!!
Dundee United FC chairman Eddie
Thompson has awarded Paul Hegarty the Manager’s job until the end of the
season. Thompson rewarded Hegarty the job following Dundee United’s win over
Kilmarnock, 2-1, at Rugby Park. Something, Paul Sturrock, nor Alex Smith had
managed in their days of managing the side.
Hegarty is delighted with
getting the Manager’s position as he has been after this job for several years
now, Him and Maurice Malpas will both attempt to achieve great things at
Tannadice, and I for one, hope they prove successful. Transfer targets for
Januarys window opening are now taking place, with Hegarty stating that players
will be heading to Tannadice, which is promising. Hegarty has also brought
about a new belief at Tannadice, we are now playing better than we were under
Alex Smith, and Hegarty can take credit for that, but he has to keep it up!!
MOTHERWELL F
MOTHERWELL F.C VS DUNDEE UNITED F.C
This game will take place
16/11/02 at Fir Park, and is very much an important game for our side, as we
look to pull ourselves away from the relegation zone. Three points here would
make life so much easier for us, and I’m sure many fans will travel down to
Motherwell following the teams recent good performance against Celtic despite
the result. I honestly believe that if United play the same way we did against
Celtic, then top-six is a real possibility, because not many teams would beat
us. It would also give Hegarty an extension to his contract. This game is also
vitally important for morale reasons! Because of course, Dens Park is the next
place that The Tangerines will enlighten, and that will be a must win
situation!
Our opponents at Fir Park are obviously Motherwell, and
they come into this tie with many defeats and no victory’s for two months!
We know they have a dangerous youngster in James McFadden,
as he was the one who gave Motherwell the inspiration needed to beat Celtic. I
don’t think United should be too concerned going into this tie, as long as they
go about winning in the right way. If we do that, we will win, as we really do
have a better squad than Motherwell. So I forsee this tie going…
